Fat and Skinny.

Being thin has become a bad thing. Fat is now in. Calling someone a skinny twig is something you can get away with. Calling someone a fat lump is something you can't. A girl at school asked if I was anorexic once. Asked where were my womanly bumps? A boy at college snidely remarked, I don’t fancy her. I’d snap her in half. I realise I look quite thin, But I like to run and ride and win. Veg and fruit taste good to my tongue, A sour of lime, a slice of melon. I’m a healthy weight, But that doesn’t seem enough. The feedback so far calls for change. A little bit of weight gain? Perhaps I should pile my plate high

To love. 42. To experience. To die. To make a mark on the world. “The best things in life make you sweaty.” Said Edgar Alan Poe. I sure hope he was talking about running or jogging. Platonic. Oh, perhaps it’s to have a word named after you. “Attention to health is life’s greatest hindrance.” Plato. Biologically, it’s a heart, a brain, the organs between mouth and backside. But. That’s just organs. Where’s the meaning there? Someone told me that we were made from the same things as stars. Someone told me that my ancestors were apes. Or even fish. The days before were hot and sweaty. I held my boyfriend's hand. We laced fingers together, bought smoothies and shakes, anything with ice please waiter. Took ice creams out on walks, froze bottles of water. We thought the heat would never end. The day of your service, There was rain and thunder so loud that it boomed over the words of the priest. I am an artist.

I am an artist. I create. I destroy. I create again. Like him up there, Creating a new world with just a flick of my brush. It took him seven days – I take less on a simple sketch. Then I marinade it in colour and let it age. I use words like essence and palette- Not referring to food but to a plate of colour. A whole myriad of shades you haven’t seen. Driving a car is like trying to tame a lion. Ease slowly on the pedals, lift the clutch sooooooo gently – thankfully if you mess up, stalling isn’t quite like a ravenous bite. Why my poetry is bad.

Poets. They antagonise over every single solitary word. Over each and every piece of punctuation. Getting things down to a t--- Tea, which rhymes with she, or perhaps even he... Drink up. Their poem slips slowly down the page like a river, Picking up metaphors, similes, ellipsis, elisions. I learnt about them in my English class. Class, which rhymes with trash... Oh the irony.
